This most widly known white verital is originally from the Burgundy region of France. These vines planted in 1973 close to the summit of Mt. Veeder, boast the rich qualities of the lower yielding, older Chardonnay vines. This wine still retains its youthful bright tropical fruit aromas. These vines are shaded from the sun during the afternoon, allow them to ripen more slowly, accounting for their harvest of nearly a monthly after other Chardonnay vineyards. This verital is full-bodied, complex, dry and usually a darker yellow-gold in color with green apple and pear compounds. Aged in oak barrels for 18 months and 100% malolactic fermentation create this most memorable wine. Chardonnay is the principal grape in the production of Champagne.
